ARWC Ecuador – Altitude training

This year’s Adventure Racing World Championship will be held in Ecuador with a challenging course. The race will start near the capital Quito at 3600 meters and climb tops over 4400 meters altitude, down into the Amazon jungle then backnover the Andes before decending to finish line on the Pacific Coast. The total race distance of 710 km is expected to take 5 days and 10 hours for the winning team.

This might be the most challenging race ever for us, all living at sea level and far away from rain forest and high mountains. Yesterday we arrived to Quito airport and drove two hours to Marrachi where we will spend five days trying to aclimatize to the thin air. Today we had our highest bike ride ever as we reached 3750 meters above sea level, well aware that we will break this record several times next week. The race starts on November 9, stay tuned for more updates! Below are some GoPro footage from today.

All the best of luck to you! Sounds like a pretty rough competition, but who´s gonna beat you?
No one if you ask me.
